Hello! Doctor Who has featured many guest stars varying from Foxes to Frank Skinner, and from Josh Dallas to Jessica Raine, and they’ve all been fantastic. However, there are some actors that simply haven’t appeared in Doctor Who (of course). Here are 10 actors I’d love to see have a guest role (perhaps even a companion/villain) in the future.

1. Miranda Hart

Miranda was very much rumoured to be playing the 12th Doctor before the announcement of Peter Capaldi. She was also reportedly set to appear in 2011, but withdrew for unknown reasons. I feel that Miranda’s comedic timing and diverse acting ability as seen in Call The Midwife would be perfectly suited for an episode of Doctor Who.

2. Jack Whitehall

I adore Jack Whitehall, he’s probably one of my favourite comedians and actors of all time. I love Fresh Meat, and his character always makes me laugh. Jack Whitehall is rumoured to be appearing in Series 9, and has expressed his interest in playing a villain on the show. Jack Whitehall’s ability to play ‘posh’, because he is ‘posh’, is one suited to a maniacal villain that we’d see in Doctor Who.

3. Florence Welch

Florence is, of course, the lead singer and front woman of Florence and the Machine, and is reportedly having her acting debut in the forthcoming Star Wars film. Following in the steps of musicians like Kylie, Billie Piper and John Barrowman, it would be brilliant to see Florence appear in what would be a memorable episode of Doctor Who. Otherwise, she could do what Foxes did and perform in an episode.

4. Jessie Cave

Jessie came into the mainstream media when she played Lavender Brown in Harry Potter, consequently starring in Pride featuring Moriarty and Umbridge, and also appearing in E4’s Glue. Jessie is a brilliant actress and I’d love to see her play a one-time companion.

5. Allen Leech

Allen is probably best known for playing Tom Branson in Downton Abbey, but has since left the role. I’m a huge fan of Allen’s work and find that he’d be brilliant in Doctor Who as a villain.

6. Laura Carmichael

Laura plays Lady Edith in Downton Abbey. Her acting ability is one I’ve fallen in love with, and I firmly believe that Laura Carmichael would be fantastic as a Sally Sparrow-esque character.

7. Amanda Abbington

Mary Watson. Villain. That is all. Amanda’s acting ability is so amazing, I’m such a huge fan and I believe she’d be a fantastic one-off villain in Doctor Who.

8. Helena Bonham Carter

Damn this woman terrifies me, oh gosh. Do I really need to say anything? She’s so good at playing bizarre, slightly terrifying characters. Her acting ability is so intensely gripping, just imagine seeing Michelle Gomez regenerate into Helena Bonham Carter. Other than The Master/Mistress, Helena would be fantastic as a villain.

9. Tom Felton

Tom Felton is brilliant. He’d be fantastic at playing a Craig Owens type of character, but he could definitely define a character of his own. He plays a villain brilliantly, but he manages to escape the ‘Draco Malfoy’ typecast and plays innocent hero even better.

10. Ruth Jones

(Here’s what she actually looks like)
I love Ruth Jones’ work. Gavin and Stacey and Stella are two of my favourite programmes, Ruth is a fantastic actress and she could almost definitely pull off either a level-headed protective mum fighting aliens or a slightly sinister villain with supposedly good intentions.
